“Convicted to serve people; solve problems”, Velani is an entrepreneur on a mission. Having worked in South Africa and the United States of America across industries including financial services, chemicals and the social sector. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Philosophy, Politics & Economics from the University of Cape Town and PDBA from Wits Business School (Johannesburg, SA). He co-founded the social venture, Phambili Mzansi to connect young and old with resources and a network to solve Africa’s pertinent issues. Furthermore, he serves as CEO & Founder of LÜLA, a disruptive tech-company in South Africa focusing on transforming the way people commute by leveraging on the shared economy and mobile technology.

Within LÜLA he has partnered with Busmark and the CSIR (Council for Scientific & Industrial Research) to build the iBus – Africa’s first fully integrated and intelligent bus that comes in a hydrogen, electric or diesel drivetrain. He served as the Western Cape Provincial Treasurer of InkuluFreeHeid and is a 2014 Alumni of the South Africa-Washington International Program. As one of the world’s top entrepreneurs under 25, Velani is a Global Fellow at The Kairos Society (San Francisco, CA). His interests lie in technology, transport, education and social entrepreneurship. As of 2016, Velani is the Commissioner for HR, Science, Technology & Innovation at the African Youth Commission. He is passionate about taking African experiences and using them to shape the world – this was demonstrated in a TED Talk he gave in Cape Town in 2016 titled “Commodifying The African Experience”
