Once a homeless mother who converted her car into a mobile home for herself and two children, she counts her multiple cycle races that covered distances of over 2000kms combined, amongst her most fulfilling challenges to date, as she cycled to raise money to put preschool orphans through their first year of school. Lerato Motsamai is Founder & CEO of PETROLINK, a South African based industrial and automotive lubricants, oil and grease blending company established in 2012, following to a 15 year corporate career in the petrochemical downstream sector.
Lerato plays an active role in various industry bodies and is regularly featured as a panelist, moderator and industry speaker at numerous private and public sector conferences. She is also fondly known as a passionate activist for the economic advancement of women and girls, and founded GIRLIGNITE Africa Academy in 2014 which in turn, birthed the annual 3 day GIRLIGNITE Africa Summit the following year. Both are leadership programs designed to empower teenage girls from under-resourced communities to ignite and influence Africa, and to date, has had more than 500 girls completing either one or both of the programmes.
Lerato is a 2015 Spark International Changemaker and a 2016/17 Graca Machel Trust Women Advancing Africa Fellow. She has recently been selected to receive a Global Leadership Award in New York through the Nigerian and London-based, Centre for and Leadership Development later this year.
