Communications & Public Relations Director, Baines Imaging Group |

VIRL is a woman owned and led development rural and social financial services company, which was established in 2010 with capital put up by Virginia Sibanda, the Chief Executive Officer and Farai Mpofu, an executive director, May 2014 until February 2017, responsible for business development and investor relations. She chaired the board as a non executive and acted as VIRL’s fund raiser, from inception, while Virginia worked full time to establish and grow the business. Thanks to the founders’ combined efforts and good development and private partners, VIRL’s has over 4000 clients, 52 staff members, 7 branches and a network of agencies and employs group and individual lending methodologies.

VIRL is a leader in rural development lending, resulting in an agriculture book of 45% and women clients hovering around 50%. Outreach is expensive owing to well documented factors so VIRL is on constant look-out for patient, well-priced loan funds for on-lending and is keen to engage investors looking for equity participation.

Since March 2017 Farai holds the position of Communications and Public Relations Director with Baines Imaging Group.
Farai is an English major with 25 years of experience in financial services, in both international and indigenous companies. She has served on the boards of directors of Zimbabwe Association of Microfinance Institutions, Women’s University in Africa, Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust, Junior Achievement Zimbabwe, St Martin’s Primary School and is Patron of the Pledge 25 young blood donors club, being herself a donor.
