Chief Finance Officer Econet Wireless Zimbabwe |
Emilia Chisango is the Chief Finance Officer for Econet Wireless. Prior to joining Econet, Emilia spent 21 years at KPMG, 15 of which were at partner level. At KPMG, Emilia branched out of the main audit stream to concentrate on forensic auditing, a very interesting profession, especially for women. While Emilia is not at liberty to disclose her specific results and achievements in the forensic space for confidentiality reasons, the media did not make a secret of her prowess in this area and certainly those who follow the news would have picked her name in one or two high profile cases.
When Emilia was made partner at KPMG in 2001, she made headlines as the first black female partner in any accounting firm and, at 29, also became the youngest partner at KPMG. In 2009, Emilia was elected President the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Zimbabwe (ICAZ), becoming its first female president in its 91 year history then. Aged 36 then, she again became the youngest President ever (male or female) at the prestigious institution.
In 2016, Emilia was selected to represent Zimbabwe in the US State department sponsored Fortune 500 mentorship programme where participants have a chance to interact with other women from 13 other countries and also be attached to an influential Fortune 500 female executive. Emilia has a deep passion for mentoring and has created a few ladies networking groups where she delivers both group and individual mentorship. She also introduces an interesting concept of network mentorship through peer influence.
She is married to Fortune Chisango, with 5 children. She is a Christian who loves singing and actively participates in the choir. Emilia is also a keen Golfer and an avid “road runner”.
